Doctors end warning strike

The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, has called off its 5-day warning strike which began on the 15th of December and asked all doctors to resume this morning Monday December 23rd. The President of the Association, Osahon Enabulele, while speaking on the call off said; "NMA wishes to inform the general public that doctors in the public health sector will resume services from December 23. This is in line with our earlier promise to give prime consideration to the Yuletide season in the prosecution of our warning strike. Also, to give another opportunity for the Federal Government to concretely resolve all the demands of NMA for which it first issued a 21-day ultimatum on September 2" Mr Enabulele however said that a full blown strike would be embarked upon by the association from January 6th 2014 if their demands are not met by the Federal Government. ...shoot!!!...

World's first ARTIFICIAL HEART transplant

An artificial heart has been transplanted into a patient for the first time in medical history, it was announced today. French medics said that a male patient was awake and responding well following Wednesday's ground-breaking operation at the Georges Pompidou Hospital in Paris. Marcello Conviti, head of the Carmat biomedical firm, said: 'We are delighted with this first implant, although it is premature to draw conclusions given that a single implant has been performed and that we are in the early postoperative phase. Mr Conviti said the artificial heart, which is three times the weight of a real one, would beat for at least five years. Couple dressed as Shrek and Princess Fiona on their wedding day

Amanda, 44, and Nathan Gibbs, 39, from Kingswinford, West Midlands planned their rather unusual ceremony after eight years together. After losing a number of friends to cancer, the couple decided to dress as the fairytale couple and use the day to raise money for charity. Dressed in full costume, the pair wed at Priory Hall near Dudley. Guests also dressed up for the themed celebrations - dressing up as the Gingerbread Man, Mickey Mouse and Jack Sparrow from Pirates Of The Caribbean. Instead of wedding gifts, the couple - who run an ironing service business, asked that people donate money to Cancer Research. Mr Gibbs said: 'In the last 15 months we've lost seven of our customers to cancer. 'It just broke our hearts. We wanted to do something to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage more people to go and get checked out.' Doctors embark on 5 days strike

Nigerian doctors today began a 5-day warning strike following a 21-day ultimatum issued weeks ago to the federal government, demanding pay rise, improved welfare, infrastructure and other benefits which was promised to them. The President of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr Osahon Enabulele said this is the first phase of the strike, that the second phase would be effective after the yuletide if there are no favorable developments.
